Squares of background fabric are folded in half and added to two corners of the log cabins to create the leaves.

Tip: Eliminate the math by cutting the strips using the center line on any of the Creative Grids 3-1/2 inch wide rectangles.
This white line is at the 1-3/4 inch mark, the width of the strips needed for this tool.
